Paracetamol: Generic Vs Brand

Every drug has an approved name known as the generic name. The medicines which have similar actions often have similar-sounding generic names. For instance, ampicillin, phenoxymethylpenicillin, flucloxacillin and amoxicillin come under one group of antibiotics. Also, some drugs have one or more brand names which are decided by the drug manufacturing company. Many pharma firms may produce the same generic drug, each with their unique brand name.
Generic medicines are often cheaper than drugs with brand names. There is often a big price difference between paracetamol generic and paracetamol with different brand names. Panadol 500mg paracetamol tablets are known as a “brand leader” and Herron 500mg paracetamol tablets are generic.
Some pills or tablets contain a blend of medicines. Such medicinal products are often advertised and sold under brand names. Though, the individual tablets (the medicines that are mixed to form the one tablet or pill) will all be printed on the packet. For instance, Solpadol is the brand name of a popular painkiller. This drug has two generic medicines – codeine and paracetamol. Often, doctors are trained to use generic.  Sometimes, one medicine has different brand name.
Often, the company chooses the name which can be easily noticed by people when advertised. They also think that the name should be easier to say or spell than the generic name. Paracetamol is a generic name. There are many companies which make paracetamol generic drugs. Panadol and Calpol are the common brand name of Paracetamol.
